End Date

Location

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Event Summary

The Congress is an intergovernmental event hosted by the Government of Brazil and co-organised by the United Natins Children's Fund (UNICEF) and ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), with the participation of a broad range of governmental representatives, civil society organisations, researchers and institutions, the private sector, and children and young people. Building on previous World Congresses in Sweden and Japan, it will examine what works in different regions, emerging challenges, and promising preventive and responsive practices. The aim is to promote and support international, regional, and cross-border cooperation between countries and institutions to combat the sexual exploitation of children.

Issues will include:

  • the impact of globalisation
  • exploitation of children through travel and tourism
  • child trafficking
  • pornography
  • exploitation through the internet and new technologies
  • the legislative framework and law enforcement
  • strategies for international cooperation
  • child and adolescent participation in protection against exploitation
