FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS Professional Vacancy Announcement No: 2052-RAP Deadline For Application: 19 August 2008 Position Title: Agricultural Officer (Bioenergy and Industrial Crops) Duty Station: Bangkok, Thailand Grade Level: P-2 Duration: Fixed Term: 3 years CCOG Code: 1H01 Organizational Unit : Regional Office for Asia and the PacificRAP DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the functional guidance of the ADG/Regional Representative, the technical supervision of the Director, AGP and the direct supervision of the Senior Plant Production Officer, RAP, the incumbent will participate in FAO’s programme of work on crop production with emphasis on bioenergy and industrial crops, providing support to regional and national programmes in the RAP region on optimisation of sustainable crop production with emphasis on matters related to production and improvement of bioenergy and key industrial crops important for sustainable intensification of food systems, feed, fibre and bioenergy while addressing agriculture mitigation and adaptation for climate change. More specifically, to: • Provide technical inputs and guidance on bioenergy and industrial crop production agronomy and improvement, including on optimisation of their production systems and good farming practices, so member countries can address their food, feed, fibre and energy needs in a safe and balanced manner. • Contribute to developing knowledge management tools of key crops and cropping systems: monitoring, collecting, inputting and interpreting agronomic, environmental and economic data to underpin knowledge-sharing, policy advice and field-level technical assistance with emphasis on needs of smallholder producers in the region. • Participate in formulating, implementing and monitoring field projects and supporting the development of national capacity-building programmes, with respect to bioenergy and selected industrial crop production, including for climate change mitigation and adaptation. • Contribute to studies, data interpretation and technical guidance on sustainable use of genetic resources, including plant breeding and seed systems of the targeted crops domain. • Participate in the organization of workshops and technical meetings. • Participate in the backstopping of field projects activities. • Draft reports and monographs and respond to requests from Member Governments for information and guidance. • Perform other related duties as required.
