| Date: 25 July 2008 Deadline for application: 21 August 2008 (23 day(s) until closing deadline) Currently accepting applications Organization unit: AI UNAIDS Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (AI) Evidence, Monitoring and Policy Department / Epidemiology and Analysis Division Duty station: Geneva Switzerland | | | PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership on the epidemiological analysis of the AIDS epidemic by regularly disseminating up-to-date estimates and analyses of the epidemic and its impact; by developing, applying and promoting high quality approaches and tools for epidemiological analysis and evaluation with a focus on the implications for prevention, treatment and impact alleviation programming. | Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position: Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Epidemiology and Analysis Division, the Data Coordinator/Analyst is responsible for establishing the foundation for the Unit's capacity for effective programme support on data gathering, analysis and utilization. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Carry out the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of analytical methods and tools for the Epidemiology and Analysis Division, including update data architecture.
2. Coordinate epidemiological and demographic data management and dissemination with the EAD and both internal and external partners.
3. Critically review specific analytical reports produced by the EAD team including provision of necessary data as well as analysing results.
4. Provide advice and coordinate with counterparts in cosponsoring organizations, other partners and UNAIDS units on methods for ensuring soundness and consistency of technical information flow.
5. Participate in the development of modelling tools and training materials, warehouse up-to-date analytical software tools to strengthen the analytical capacities of the Division, and training-related activities including co-facilitate training workshops on data management and analysis methods.
6. Provide technical input in the subject area as required.
7. Carry out any other related duties.
| | REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | Education: University degree in information, biological, social or health sciences. | Competencies: Relevant experience in database management, data analysis, computing and some knowledge of data modelling.
| Experience: Three to six years experience in data management including one to two years in modelling. | Languages: Essential: Excellent knowledge of English with working knowledge of French.
