SEWA is a trade union of poor, self employed women workers founded by Ela Bhatt in 1972. SEWA’s main goals are to organize poor women workers from the informal sector for self reliance and full employment. Full employment means employment whereby workers obtain work security, income security, food security and social security (at least health care, child care, insurance and shelter). SEWA has developed its own system for providing social security over the past three decades.
‘SEWA Social Security’ has developed cooperatives and associations to provide social security services through three units: Health care (Arogya SEWA), Child Care (Bal SEWA) and Micro insurance (Vimo SEWA).
Position Vacant: Finance Manager (SEWA Social Security)
Location: Ahmedabad
Responsibilities:
• Managing the operating fund and investments of SEWA Social Security • Review and develop financial policies and procedures • Review financial aspects of project proposals and ensure compliance with donor’s financial policies and procedures • Provide budgetary recommendations for programs & HR • Review and monitor administrative budget • Ensure maintenance of accurate accounting records and support in documentation • Training and appraisal of finance and accounting team • Responsible for periodic financial statements and other requested financial reports • Responsible for coordinating all internal and external audits • Monitor asset management and its insurance • Provide regular updates on all tax and legal issues that relate to SEWA Social Security
Eligibility
• Post graduate qualification in finance and management • Minimum of 5 years experience in a managerial position, preferably in the development sector • Fluency in English and Gujarati/ Hindi
